YouTube only rents movies in 480p instead of the promised 1080p because of licensing and copyright restrictions. The movie studios and distributors have control over the quality of the content they make available for rental, and they may choose to limit the resolution to prevent piracy and unauthorized distribution. Additionally, offering higher resolution rentals may also impact the sales of physical copies or higher-priced digital downloads, so studios may choose to restrict the quality available for rental on YouTube. **
