The grandfather clock doesn't chime because it may not have been wound or set properly. Grandfather clocks typically need to be wound regularly to keep accurate time and to chime. On the other hand, the bell chimes because it is likely a separate mechanism that is not reliant on being wound like the grandfather clock. The bell may be operated manually or by an electronic mechanism, allowing it to chime without the need for regular winding. **

An old clock gives the number of chimes equal to the current hour. For example, if the current time is 3 o'clock, the old clock will chime 3 times. If the current time is 7 o'clock, the old clock will chime 7 times. This is a traditional way for old clocks to indicate the current hour to those who may not be able to see the clock face. **

Rain shadow deserts are called so because they are formed as a result of a rain shadow effect. This occurs when moist air from the ocean is forced to rise over a mountain range, causing it to cool and release its moisture as rain or snow on the windward side of the mountains. As the air descends on the leeward side, it warms and becomes drier, creating a rain shadow effect. This results in a dry and arid climate on the leeward side of the mountains, leading to the formation of rain shadow deserts. **
